This will be my 100th blog post! And interestingly, I will be talking about Qing Ming (grave sweeping) in Fengyuan again. I do not want to repeat anything that I previously wrote about before, so this blog entry will be shorter than the one that I wrote last year.
I have two observations to make from having gone to several Lu family Qing Ming gatherings. First, it is never exactly the same, as different relatives show up every year. Not everyone comes every year. Papa and Mama were with us this year.
And I always get to meet people from Jeff’s extended family that I have not met before.
There was lots of delicious food offered to the ancestors and enjoyed by everyone present afterwards.
There was lots of socializing among family members. Most of the discussions were in Chinese or Taiwanese, so I did not understand what they were talking about.
And paper money was burned. This year, the fire stayed under control!
The burning of the paper money is something that the younger family members always seem to enjoy!
My second observation is that the Lu house looks better every year than it did the year before. The repairs that the government is doing at the house are making a big difference! The front entrance gate has been repaired.
Another wing of the house has been repaired.
The library section has been repaired.
While we were at the Lu Family House, another group of Lu family relatives showed up. I met this group of relatives for the first time this year.
I had never seen this photograph before. It had been taken off the wall in a section of the house that is going to be repaired this year. I think that this woman is Jeff’s great-grandmother?
It was wonderful getting to meet so many new people from Jeff’s extended family!
